My name is Ana Crespo. Aside from being a children's book author, I was a literary agent at East West Literary Agency for five years. During that time, I sold over two dozen books, including picture books and early reader graphic novels. (See the ones available or available for pre-order here.) Of the 19 clients I had throughout my years as a literary agent, 13 of them were debut authors or illustrators, and nine out of those 13 (70%) became traditionally published. In fact, some of them now have three or more books out or soon-to-be out. Publishers and imprints included Harper Collins, Macmillan (Henry Holt BYR, Feiwel & Friends), Penguin (Rocky Pond, Nancy Paulsen), Simon & Schuster (Denene Millner), Candlewick, Disney-Hyperion, Abrams, Holiday House (Neal Porter), Charlesbridge, and more. There were a combination of things that led to this success, most importantly, the quality of the work and the dedication of my former clients. But I was there too, to brainstorm ideas, critique manuscripts and dummies, discuss hooks, and provide support. I learned a lot. Now that I left agenting to focus on the creative part of the industry, I am offering some of these services to picture book authors and author-illustrators everywhere through my company, The Green & Yellow Alien, Ltd.

The 'First-time, Individual Critique' includes a 30-min, face-to-face conversation about my approach to critiques, followed by a 60-min critique session. During the critique, I will read your manuscript aloud, clarify points, and make suggestions, and we will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas. If time allows, you can share up to two extra PB manuscripts. The manuscript file with discussed comments and a simple editorial letter will later be sent via e-mail. Author-illustrators with 'dummies' are also welcome to schedule 'First-time, Individual Critiques.'
Individual Critiques

During this 60-min face-to-face critique meeting, I will read your manuscript aloud, clarify points, and make suggestions, and we will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas. If time allows, you are welcome to share up to two extra picture book manuscripts. The manuscript file with comments and a simple editorial letter will later be sent via e-mail. Author-illustrators with dummies are also welcome to schedule 'Individual Critiques.'

Translation Services
Portuguese to English Only
Although Brazilian Portuguese is my native language, I am no longer familiar with current Brazilian idioms nor with Brazil's publishing industry. Therefore, I do not feel comfortable translating works into Brazilian Portuguese. However, considering my experience as both an author and an agent in the American publishing industry as well as previous translation experience, I am interested and excited about the possibility of translating picture books from Brazilian Portuguese to American English. Appointments and workshops must be booked online. To book an appointment or workshop, click on the button "schedule," next to the services you are interested in.

Payment is due at booking. When you click on the "schedule" button, if booking a critique, you will be asked to pick a date and time that work for you. Once the date and time are picked, payment will be requested. The critique and/or workshop will only be booked after payment is processed.

Critiques and workshops are offered through Zoom only. After the service is scheduled, you will receive an automated message with a link to the Zoom meeting.

You must cancel the service 24hrs (twenty-four hours) or more prior to its start to receive a refund. If you need to cancel an appointment, open the confirmation message and click on "cancel appointment." Unfortunately, the system does not allow for costs to be refunded automatically. Please, contact Ana through the form below so she can manually issue a refund.

Service fees may apply. The system charges service fees to process the payment. Those service fees may not be refundable. Service fees are usually no more than 4% of the charged amount.

Last-minute cancellations will not be refunded. If you must cancel your service within 24hrs (twenty-four hours) of its start, a refund will not be issued and you will need to reschedule the appointment. Please, use the contact form to reach out to Ana to reschedule your appointment.

Clients with repeat cancellations will no longer be allowed to schedule a service. You can cancel up to two services. After two cancellations, you will no longer be allowed to schedule a critique and/or a workshop.
