Hello! My name is Ana Crespo. Aside from being a children's book author, I was a literary agent at East West Literary Agency for five years. During that time, I sold over two dozen books, including picture books and early reader graphic novels. (See the ones available or available for pre-order here.) Of the 19 clients I had throughout my years as a literary agent, 13 of them were debut authors or illustrators, and nine out of those 13 (70%) became traditionally published. In fact, some of them now have three or more books out or soon-to-be out. Publishers and imprints included Harper Collins, Macmillan (Henry Holt), Penguin (Rocky Pond), Simon & Schuster (Millner), Candlewick, Disney-Hyperion, Holiday House (Neal Porter), Charlesbridge, and more. There were a combination of things that led to this success, most importantly, the quality of the work and the dedication of my former clients. But I was there too, to brainstorm ideas, critique manuscripts and dummies, discuss hooks, and provide support. I learned a lot. Now that I left agenting to focus on the creative part of the industry, I am offering some of these services to picture book authors and author-illustrators everywhere through my company, The Green & Yellow Alien, Ltd.
